History of Lake Tahoe

Lake Tahoe was formed millions of years ago through geologic faulting, creating a natural basin in the Sierra Nevada. The area was home to the Washoe people for centuries before European explorers arrived in the 1840s. The lake gained prominence during the California Gold Rush and later as a resort destination in the 20th century, with the development of ski resorts and tourism infrastructure.

Today, Lake Tahoe is celebrated for its environmental preservation efforts, balancing tourism with the protection of its pristine ecosystem.
