Discover the romance, culture, and timeless beauty of France's capital
Explore ParisParis, the capital of France, is one of the most iconic cities in the world, renowned for its art, fashion, gastronomy, and culture. Situated on the Seine River in northern France, it has been a center of learning, arts, and commerce for centuries. The city's picturesque streets, world-class museums, and romantic atmosphere make it one of the most visited destinations globally.
Paris was founded in the 3rd century BC by a Celtic tribe called the Parisii, who established a fishing village on the Île de la Cité. The Romans conquered the area in 52 BC and renamed it Lutetia, developing it into a Gallo-Roman town with forums, baths, and an amphitheater.
During the Middle Ages, Paris became the capital of France and a center of learning with the establishment of the University of Paris. The Renaissance saw the city flourish culturally and architecturally. The French Revolution (1789-1799) began in Paris, changing the course of European history.
In the 19th century, Baron Haussmann redesigned the city with wide boulevards and uniform buildings, creating much of the modern Paris we know today. The city survived two World Wars and continued to grow as a global center for art, fashion, and culture.
