History of Singapore

Singapore’s history traces back to the 14th century when it was a trading port called Temasek. It became a British colony in 1819 under Sir Stamford Raffles, growing into a major entrepôt for global trade. After gaining independence from Malaysia in 1965, Singapore transformed from a developing nation into a global powerhouse under the leadership of Lee Kuan Yew.

Today, Singapore is celebrated for its clean streets, efficient governance, and vibrant multicultural identity, with landmarks like Marina Bay symbolizing its rapid modernization.
